Amy Evans Streeter

I HEART AMY EVANS STREETER

Amy Evans Streeter is an artist living in Oxford currently. She has a style to her paintings that draw you in. I don't mean this as a pun, since she's now taking orders for pet portraits, like the one above, but I bet she'd do human portraits too. Her colors combos are spot on in all her work. The mix of the green and blue in June Bug is such a beautiful mix together. Yes, please!

I'm pleased to announce that Amy will also be showing her work at the Amelia One Year Anniversary Party on September 11th, 2010. The painting below is the first in her new collection for the show.
I love that she works can goods into a lot of her work. All of her paintings have a vintage quality to them that I just love. I think I need one...

PLEASE VOTE!!! YAC needs your help!

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council located in Oxford, MS has been selected as a finalist for a $20,000 award in the 50 States for Good program sponsored by  Tom's of Maine.  Tom's of Maine receives thousands of submissions for this program.  They have selected just 41 groups to consider as finalists. The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council's project of renovating the Powerhouse Community Arts Center to provide access to the arts in rural Mississippi was the only project selected in Mississippi, and the only arts project among all the finalists.
The Tom's of Maine will contribute $20,000 to five different programs that are making a difference in their community.  The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council's renovation of the Powerhouse into a community arts center was selected as one of these worthy programs to be considered for the award.  The challenge is that Tom's of Maine has narrowed the finalist down to 41 programs and is now asking the public for input on which five programs should receive the funds.  Oxford is competing with programs in Brooklyn, NY, Seattle, WA, and St. Paul, MN.

We hope that by asking regional media to support this story that we can get the entire state of Mississippi behind this project. I think people will take pride in showing that our region has programs that rival anything in New York, Seattle and St. Paul, MN.

Information can be found on our website www.oxfordarts.com, but I am also attaching a link to Tom's of Maine to read more about this great honor.

****YOU CAN VOTE ONCE A DAY, BUT FOR AS MANY DAYS AS YOU WOULD LIKE... HOPEFULLY OFTEN!!

Thanks for much for supporting the arts in Mississippi and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council.
Please repost this and/or share with whomever you would like. No permission needed to help with this great chance for our community.

Blount's Folly

I love a good theme party.
It never fails that these are the parties that allow you to be the most creative.
Well, last week my good friend
PJ Blount of http://bellysweat.wordpress.com/ and known for being a space lawyer
had one of the best!

A 50's style retro dinner party, complete with prizes for best dish, second best dish, most creative and the spirit award for worst dish, but gave it a try all the same.

**Best dish was Shrimp Boats
**Second place was Chicken Casserole
**Most Creative was Caroline Croom (she brought four dishes and was the spitting image of the perfect 50's housewife, popped collar and all) Spot on perfect!!
**Spirit award was the ever so gross Bloody Mary Aspic... The girl gave it a shot and the presentation was amazing!!

PJ and his roommate Dave made fresh squeezed cocktails and had a full bar set up.

And it made it into the paper....

Some of his other dinner parties themes have been
*A Hot Dog Party, where there were prizes for best hot dog as a whole and best topping, to name a couple.
*Caribbean Jerk Style. To this day this might be some of the best food I've tasted.

Do you have a favorite theme dinner party?

VINTAGE from Ambrosia

It's no secret that I have a soft place in my heart for all things vintage...
Well, a friend of mine just launched her vintage store, moved to a new town and has no signs of slowing down anytime soon. I like the doers and she is just that!

http://www.ambrosia-vintage.com/

Visit her site and visit it often. She will have new things posting all the time. If you are just
"window shopping" at least you will have beautiful photos to look at.

Enjoy!!
