Sneak Peek: House Guest- 1999-2009

Starting in January of 1999, I started to take a Polaroid of almost every house guest that came to visit. Moving from city to city, the project moved with me. Starting in Boston on January 1st of 1999, then to Seattle, San Francisco, Memphis, New York City, Water Valley, Los Angeles, and back to Water Valley, ending December 31st 2009. Ten full years. The photos aren't perfect. The writing is messy. I wanted it to feel natural and more like a snap shot. I think I captured that. It's friends, writers, musicians, new pets, family, actors, activists and the parties in between.

Here's a little sample of what's to come...
Los Angles, CA 2007
Water Valley, MS 2008
(the first time my now husband, Sean, ever came to visit)

Check back for more sneak peeks from this project and the launch of House Guest.

*Each photo is the property of Erin Austen Abbott. Please do not use without written permission. Thank you.

Awesome new relaunch!!

The girls of Bowerbird just went pro. They have an awesome redesign by James Kelleway of Confit Design and they are ready to somehow get more awesome than they already are. I'm such a fan of these two.

I hope you will take the time to look through this really well curated blog and maybe even do a little shopping while you're there. Enjoy!!

Recap of a busy week

This week has been a whirrrrrlwind. That's an understatement.

Monday: I was pleasantly surprised to see a post on Design Sponge where our home was featured in one of my most favorite sections on that rad blog, Make It Yours. From our  Sneak Peak back in December, two rooms were used and you are given the resources to recreate it.  From the colors to the items in the room. Thank you Grace and Amy for having us back.

Tuesday: It was the last days to vote in the Daily Candy, Start Small, Go Big contest where I was a finalist.

Wednesday: Peace Out

Thursday: The new issue of Southern Flourish came out. I never expected to be on the cover. But I'm certainly honored that I was. I love this magazine.

Friday: Today we find out who won in the Daily Candy contest. Wish me luck!!

CRAZY BIG NEWS!!

Hello! It's been a summer since I wrote a post. I had a really busy summer, so I'm glad I took a break, but also glad to be back. Thanks for sticking with me. With that, I have crazy big news.

So awhile back, I entered a contest on Daily Candy called the Start Small, Go Big contest.
I entered it with Amelia in mind. I have all these designs in my mind that I'd like to create myself, so
that was the focus of my entry, to add my own brand into the store.
Well fast forward a few weeks/months (I can't really judge time anymore because it flies by so fast)
and I get a call last week from the sweet folks at Daily Candy telling me that I am one of the 12 finalist overall and only one of three in the home section. You have to understand my shock. I haven't won anything since the 2nd grade when I won an Atari, in a raffle. Although, in 1983, that was better than gold. I'm not complaining.  Well, I was at work at the time, so I threw the "Be Back in 5 Minutes" sign on the door and spent the next 4 1/2 minutes jumping up and down with excitement.

Here's where I need your help. To win now, it all comes down to votes. From now until September 16th, you can vote for me once a day, here. Please vote as much as you can and if you wouldn't mind asking your friends to vote as well, I would very, very much appreciate it.

If you tweet it, please @dailycandy and throw in the #ssgb.
